Eat what the locals eat
The best place in Willemstad to get to know the people of Curacao and their culture is Plasa Bieu, also known as Marshe Bieu. It is an old market building in Punda, which in 2003 has been transformed into a simple restaurant. Actually it is not one restaurant but several restaurants in one. Many locals come to Plasa Bieu to enjoy a large lunch. Typical Antillean dishes are served here, also known as ‘Kuminda Krioyo’ (Creole food). These dishes are prepared with ingredients such as corn, tomato, cucumber, onion, pumpkin, banana, goat, chicken, fish or even lizard. On the menu you can find dishes like Giambo (ocher soup), Kadushi (cactus soup) and Kabritu stoba (stewed goat).
