Lovers of art and architecture are catered on Curacao with a large art gallery in the beautiful historical Habaai Mansion. The Habaai Mansion used to be a plantation house and was turned into a luxury country house to later be used as a boarding school. Since 2007, the Alma Blou Gallery is located in the Habaai Mansion. The gallery has the largest art collection of the whole island. The mansion that has its origins in the beginning of the eighteenth century is now back in good condition thanks to the efforts of owners Popi and Herman Verboom.
Throughout the whole year Alma Blou Gallery exhibits work from collections of local and Caribbean artists such as paintings, sculptures, ceramics, jewellery and dolls. Six times a year the gallery has a solo or group exhibition of one or more artists. Used themes and materials vary, but all art has a Caribbean character and Curacao flair. Colours, architecture, the underwater world, people, mythology, the wind and landscape inspire artists: actually everything that has something to do with the diversity of Curacao.
